heatwave 2026

I have been developing the Heatwave series since 2022. It reflects my anthropological perspective on time spent at the beach, which I see as a microcosm of contemporary consumer society. Each year, the photographic series expands alongside installation elements made from discarded inflatable beach cushions—objects that are bought for temporary use, quickly deteriorate, and are thrown away. In this context, they serve as symbols of consumerism.

This year’s works are based on photographs created using the cyanotype process, with additional light bleaching and coffee toning. The colored dots are cut from remnants of plastic inflatables and painted in various hues. They reference point-density maps, such as those used to visualize population density.

Through these dots, I aim to show the scale and pervasiveness of plastic in everyday life. Because the photographs contain significant variations in perspective and in the amount of plastic represented, the data is expressed as percentages, with some approximations. The series continues my critique of consumerism and highlights the environmental consequences of excessive plastic use.
